Risk more than others think is safe. Care more than others think is wise. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible.
– Claude T Bissell

The coaching relationship
This is unique; coaching offers support and encouragement in a challenging but safe environment. The relationship is highly dynamic; it requires active and collaborative participation of both the client and the coach. Coaching is about you as a whole person, your values, goals, work, balance, fulfilment and life purpose.
It is a journey we take together. It is your agenda and I make no judgements.
As the client, you bring the issues, aspirations, resistances, dreams etc. you wish to discuss on that day. There is usually a specific call to action at the end of each session with direct accountability to you the client.
About commitment
You would be choosing me as your coach because you want to make significant changes to your life. These changes will sometimes happen fast, sometimes not. Because change often happens over time, I usually recommend a three-month commitment to the coaching process; this allows the coaching relationship to develop and be powerful.
As your coach, you have my word that I am 100% committed to you being empowered, successful and to having the life you want.
The process
The process begins with an ‘intake’ session. This 2-hour ‘intake’ or ‘discovery’ session provides us with the foundation for our coaching relationship; your goals, your vision, how we will work together, expectations, patterns of resistance and a much better understanding of who you are and what’s important to you.
We would then agree dates and times for our first 3 month’s sessions, typically this would include two or three sessions per month equalling 2 hours of coaching, which can be telephone or face-to-face. In addition, there is often contact between sessions with short phone calls or emails.
At the end of the 3 months, we would review the achievements of the coaching, acknowledge and celebrate how far you have come and agree the best way to progress.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
– T S Elliott, Four Quartets
Breakthrough Coaching
Perhaps you simply need a ‘breakthrough’ session; 1-2 hours of intensive coaching when you’re feeling a little stuck. This gives you time to explore an issue, gain a different perspective, create goals and move forward in ways that serve you. This is particularly useful for those who have been through the coaching process.
Ask yourself some questions
I have included some questions below that are designed to inspire you, stimulate your thinking and unlock your knowing. There are no right or wrong ways to answer. Take some quiet time to be with the questions and to allow your responses to emerge from within.
- If life were as good as it could possibly get what would it be like?
- And who would you have become?
- Look forward 20 years … you are attending a function where someone is giving a speech about YOU! What would you want them to say?
- What do you want more of / less of in your life?
- What, to you, is success? If you had an image of success what would it be?
- If time and resources were of no concern, describe the things you long to do
- What are your excuses or potential obstacles to your goals/desires?
- What would you do if you weren’t scared?
